Meet the new self-destructing Derma Roller! It’s the first 100% biodegradable Derma Roller from Micro Glow - the female founded, self funded start up from Melbourne Australia. 

We always want things to be better here at Micro Glow. More sustainable, longer lasting and we don’t like taking short cuts. We started developing our Biodegradable Derma Roller back in 2019 and it took us over 2 years to get it right, not too shabby considering we did it in the middle of a global pandemic.

Sustainability has always been important to our co-founder Emily who founded a body positive swimwear label in 2011 and transitioned it into one of Australia's first sustainable swimwear labels back in 2017.

"I'm not one of those preachy types that get all up in your face when it comes to sustainability, but I do encourage "everyday sustainable" at home and at work. 

It’s not practical or possible for us all to revert to churning our own butter and hand washing our clothes. I’m about making better, smart choices when you can. That’s what our Bio RollerⓇ is all about. Making your face products go further without the use of traditional plastics. 

We transitioned our Micro Glow skincare packaging to more sustainable options in 2020 knowing that the biodegradable Derma Roller would be the final piece in creating a beauty brand as good for the planet as it is for your face. It's been a long journey getting to where we are now and I’m extremely proud of the work we have done to get here.”

So what is this new Biodegradable Derma Roller made from?

OK, so what does Biodegradable actually mean?

It means that once you are done using your Derma Roller you can throw the handle and cap into your green waste bin ( or the regular waste if you don’t have green waste) and it will break down over time. It kind of goes without saying that the micro needles themselves wont break down, since they're made from medical grade Titanium and if Sia taught us anything, its that Titanium is pretty damned strong.

How long does it take for the Micro Glow Biodegradable Derma Roller to break down?

Good question-usually, it will take around a year, however, this can vary depending on the environment it is left in to break down. 

How many uses will I get from the Bio RollerⓇ?

The Bio Roller uses the exact same needles as the OG Derma Roller meaning you will get around 13-15 uses from it before the needles become blunt and you will need to replace it.
